MLL Players Talk Holidays

March 17, 2016

What is your favorite part of the holidays?

Jeremy Boltus (A), Charlotte Hounds “Favorite part of the holiday season is getting to spend time with my family and friends who mean the world to me. I think that is the best gift that I could ask for on Christmas each year."

Martin Cahill (M), Rochester Rattlers “My favorite part of the holiday season is spending time with family and friends while enjoying some great home cooking and relaxation.”

Sean DeLaney (M), Denver Outlaws “Hands down my mom’s Christmas breakfast. Joan DeLaney on Christmas morning in the kitchen is like Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel.”

Chris Eck (M/FO), Boston Cannons “Being able to spend time with family and friends.”

Brett Garber (M), Ohio Machine “I would say just being around family. When most of our family lives across the country, it’s nice to be able to spend time and enjoy the best things in life!”

Adam Ghitelman (G), Charlotte Hounds “Being with family and friends is very important to me, but my favorite part of the holiday season is the first sign of snow. I cannot wait for the New Year to snowboard in Vermont and hopefully back out in Colorado. I haven’t ridden since high school because of lacrosse…should be interesting."

Kyle Hartzell (D), Ohio Machine “Relaxing and being with family. Other things I love about the holidays are all the Christmas parties and spending time with friends."

JJ Morrissey (M), Boston Cannons "Getting together with my family and having lots of good food and laughs."

Paul Rabil (M), Boston Cannons “Spending time with my family, getting to reflect on the past year, and setting goals for the New Year.”

PT Ricci (D), Boston Cannons “My favorite part of the holiday season is being able to spend quality time with friends and family. In a close second is all of the delicious food which we get to stuff our faces with.”

Stefan Schroder (G), Ohio Machine “My favorite part of the holiday season is getting to see all my family and friends together.”

Justin Smith (M), Charlotte Hounds “Family get-togethers and food.”

Brian Spallina (D), Chesapeake Bayhawks “Family time. Having two children of my own brings a new meaning to the holidays. Nothing beats the look on their faces.”

Kip Turner (G), Chesapeake Bayhawks “Friends, family and not having to work for a few days.”

What is the worst gift you’ve given or received?

Jeremy Boltus (A), Charlotte Hounds “My worst holiday gift was a box of used golf balls from my older brother a few years ago. Luckily, it was a joke but I got a little heated at the time.”

Martin Cahill (M), Rochester Rattlers “The worst gift I have ever given was probably a pair of Jordan's to my brother. He wanted them but I got the wrong size which didn't go over too well. The worst gift I have ever received was probably the cooking pans I got stuck with in last year’s Yankee swap."

Sean DeLaney (M), Denver Outlaws “Someone once gave me an awful looking watch. We are no longer dating.”

Chris Eck (M/FO), Boston Cannons “I think I’ve received about 500 pairs of pajama pants. I don’t think I’ve ever worn them…just get too hot at night.”

Brett Garber (M), Ohio Machine “Worst gift I received would be a metal wreath that lights up. I like holiday decorations, but this thing was hideous. The worst gift I ever gave, I would have to say, is olive oil. I was young and buying it for someone who liked cooking. Sorry mom! Haha.”

Adam Ghitelman (G), Charlotte Hounds “Worst Gift: An ex got me this hideous looking jacket one year. Fur hood and khaki plaid? Either I’ve changed or I’m just a bit bitter. Favorite Gift: Terrell Davis jersey the year the 1997 Broncos were pushing for the Super Bowl repeat. Davis is my favorite NFL running back of all-time. Also apparently makes a great barbeque sauce.”

Kyle Hartzell (D), Ohio Machine “Socks. Hahahah.”

JJ Morrissey (M), Boston Cannons "My mom gave me and my brother an electric football game, but we had sneaked into their room and played with a few weeks before Christmas so by the time it came to open it on Christmas Day we were already bored with it."

Paul Rabil (M), Boston Cannons “Fortunately for me, every gift I have received has been well-thought out and from the heart. Can’t hate on that. I love all of my gifts.”

PT Ricci (D), Boston Cannons “The worst gift that I ever received was a sweater from my grandmother. It sat at the bottom of my closet for three years before sending it to good will. The worst gift I ever gave was a CD that I burned for myself, but gave it to my brother when I was in middle school. I spent all of my money on candy and had nothing left for presents that Christmas.”

Stefan Schroder (G), Ohio Machine “The worst present I’ve received was this awful looking sweater my mom tried to get me to wear one year. It didn’t happen.”

Justin Smith (M), Charlotte Hounds “Starbucks gift card (re-gifted). Don’t do coffee.”

Brian Spallina (D), Chesapeake Bayhawks “Received: Satin elf boxers with tiny bells hanging off of them. We re-gift them every year to a new person. Given: When I was a kid I gave my older brother Connect Four. The funny part is that it was already his, but I wrapped it and gave it to him. When he opened it, the box broke and the pieces spilled everywhere. He cried for an hour. Always a fun story to bring up at Christmas time."

Kip Turner (G), Chesapeake Bayhawks “I get antiques all the time from my mom. Won’t be using them anytime soon…”

What is your favorite holiday movie?

Jeremy Boltus (A), Charlotte Hounds “My favorite holiday movie is either Christmas Vacation or The Grinch. Doesn’t get much better than Chevy Chase or Jim Carrey in the spotlight."

Martin Cahill (M), Rochester Rattlers “Easy. Christmas Vacation.”

Sean DeLaney (M), Denver Outlaws “I love the classics but not sure it gets any better than Elf. ‘SANTA! OH MY GOD! SANTA’S COMING! I KNOW HIM! I KNOW HIM!’”

Chris Eck (M/FO), Boston Cannons “Elf.”

Brett Garber (M), Ohio Machine “Christmas Vacation. Best holiday movie ever made.”

Adam Ghitelman (G), Charlotte Hounds “Favorite holiday movie has to be Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. Watch it every year with my mom and she does not stop laughing. Clark Griswold is a legendary family man."

Kyle Hartzell (D), Ohio Machine “Christmas Vacation is my favorite movie. Clark Griswold.”

JJ Morrissey (M), Boston Cannons "Elf."

Paul Rabil (M), Boston Cannons “Gotta be Elf. I’m a huge Will Ferrell fan.”

PT Ricci (D), Boston Cannons “My favorite holiday movie would have to be a tie with ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas,’ and ‘Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.’ Animated movies are my favorite. If neither of those movies are on you can’t go wrong by watching ABC Family 25 days of Christmas.”

Stefan Schroder (G), Ohio Machine “There are a lot of good holiday movies. I would have to say my favorite holiday movie is still A Christmas Story.”

Justin Smith (M), Charlotte Hounds “Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story.”

Brian Spallina (D), Chesapeake Bayhawks “Easy question. A Christmas Story…the leg lamp…you’re gonna shoot your eye out kid!"

Kip Turner (G), Chesapeake Bayhawks “Elf…duh.”
