The Ohio Machine announced today the hiring of Tom Mariano as assistant coach. Mariano, who has more than two decades of coaching experience, joins new Head Coach Bear Davis and current Assistant Coach Bill Wolford.
“Tom’s extensive years of experience as a Division I coach and our history together make him an invaluable asset for our team and is a great addition to the Ohio Machine staff,” said Head Coach Bear Davis. “I’m looking forward to getting out on the field this weekend with Tom and Bill toset a new foundation of how the rest of the year is going to go with the team.”
Mariano spent the last 17 seasons as the men’s lacrosse head coach at Sacred Heart University, where he helped transition the team into a Division I program as part of the Colonial Athletic Conference and eventually the Northeast Conference. Mariano recently received Northeast Conference Coach of the Year this past season, along with four of his players being named All-NEC and three players named to the Division I All-New England Senior Scholar Athlete Team.
"I am honored to have been asked to serve as an assistant coach for the Ohio Machine," said Mariano. “The opportunity to be associated with such a great organization and to work with the highest caliber lacrosse players is very exciting. I appreciate the opportunity the Machine and Bear Davis have offered me, and look forward to working with the players."
Before Mariano coached collegiately, he played at Nazareth College from 1992-1995 as a long-stick midfielder, including winning the NCAA Division III Championships in 1992. Mariano will make his MLL debut alongside Head Coach Davis this weekend against the Boston Cannons on Saturday, June 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Selby Stadium. Come out and support your new coaches!
