Ohio Wesleyan Graduate Named Head Coach of English National Team – Invites Bishops Overseas for Scrimmage

Ohio Wesleyan graduate Matt Bagley was appointed the Head Coach of the English National Lacrosse team during the summer. Bagley graduated from OWU in 2001 after playing lacrosse for four years.

“I could not be happier to join the coaching and managerial staff at the E.L.A. as the Men’s Lacrosse Coach. I am excited to continue my coaching career at the international level. It’s my hope to continue the strong history and tradition that is England Men’s Lacrosse,” said Bagley in a statement released by the English Lacrosse Association.

As a gesture of what Ohio Wesleyan meant to him over the years, Bagley has offered the Battling Bishop men’s lacrosse team the opportunity to scrimmage the English team overseas.

The honor of scrimmaging England is usually reserved for schools like Johns Hopkins, Princeton, and Loyola. So, getting invited to scrimmage is no small achievement.

However, Bagley insists that the honor is with England, not the university.

“Playing against an American university is always an honor, and to step on the same field as the Battling Bishops once again, even though I’d be coaching against them, would be a dream come true.”

He also believes that with London hosting the 2012 Olympic Games, coming across the pond to scrimmage England would be a valuable lesson in learning about European culture.

True Lacrosse Hires Mark Lynch as the Director of True Cincinnati
True Lacrosse is happy to announce Mark Lynch as the director of True Lacrosse Ohio. Mark Lynch is one of the most respected coaches in the Cincinnati area. His enthusiasm and knowledge of the game makes him a perfect match for this position with True Lacrosse. Mark grew up locally, playing lacrosse at Moeller High School where he received All-Midwest and All-State honors. Mark also went on to play collegiately as a goalie at Lynchburg College in Virginia.

True Lacrosse is excited to have Mark involved in the growth of the area. Traditionally Cincinnati has been considered second to Columbus in producing top level lacrosse players in Ohio. “We believe with Mark at the wheel along with True Lacrosse’s recruiting services and national travel team exposure, Cincinnati will become the new Ohio powerhouse," said True Lacrosse Co-Owner Mike Gabel.

"I feel lucky to be a part of the True Lacrosse team. Mike and Jake have developed a nationally recognized program in True Lacrosse and the time is right for True to come to southwest Ohio. We are ready to develop Cincinnati and the surrounding area into a lacrosse hotbed," said True Lacrosse Ohio Director Mark Lynch.
