Machine's Comeback Falls Short; Lose 17-13

March 19, 2016
The Ohio Machine(1-7) scored 12 of the last 19 goals but still fell to the Denver Outlaws (6-3) 17-13.

Outlaws' midfielder Peet Poillon scored the first goal of the game to give Denver the early lead.  Both teams’ defenses stepped up, holding each other scoreless until Outlaws' midfielder Drew Snider scored.  Midfielder Jeremy Sieverts and attackman Chris Bocklet scored back to back goals to increase their lead to 4-0.

Machine attackman Connor Martin scored his 13 th goal of the year with less than three minutes to go in the first quarter to end the Outlaws run.

The Outlaws continued their success on offense in the second quarter when attackman Brendan Mundorf scored to ignite a 6-0 run from the Outlaws.  The run included goals from attackmen Mark Matthews, Jordan McBride and midfielders Poillion, and Colin Briggs.

Ohio ended the run late in the second quarter with a goal from midfielder Matt Casey.  Rookie attackman Steele Stanwick found Jim Connolly and Kiel Matisz to cut Denver’s lead to 10-4.  Connolly added another to cap off a four goal run by the Machine heading into the locker rooms at halftime.

In the third quarter both teams were held scoreless until Bocklet and Poillon scored back to back goals.

Attackman Steele Stanwick began to fuel Ohio’s comeback when he found fellow rookie Kiel Matisz for back to back goals.  Stanwick tallied his fifth assist on the night when he found Matt Casey for his second goal of the game.  The Machine continued its run with goals from Chazz Woodson and Connolly.

Bocklet scored his third of the day to end Ohio’s run but Connolly scored a power play goal to put Ohio back within two.

Sieverts and Bocklet scored quick back to back goals but Stanwick scored his first goal of the game to make it 15-12.  Ohio was unable to score in the remaining four minutes and suffered its seventh loss on the season.

The Machine will return to action next weekend when they play a home at home series against the Hamilton Nationals.
