Machine Players Reactions to 2012 Season

March 19, 2016
Major League Lacrosse announced the signing of additional key players for the 2012 MLL season, including several Ohio Machine players. Check out what a few of those players have to say about the Machine's inaugural season!

Matt Cafarelli (The Ohio State University) – D:

“I am looking forward to getting in to training camp and having the opportunity to play lacrosse at the highest level. Being a part of the Ohio Machine and having the chance to play for the ‘hometown’ team are two things that not many people get a chance to do. I'm extremely excited and thankful for both opportunities.”

Matt Casey (Ithaca University) – M

"I'm really excited to play for the Ohio Machine this summer for a bunch of reasons but mainly two. One, I love to travel and I've never been to Columbus before. The second reason is a little deeper. I was fortunate enough to be a part of an expansion team in this league before and it was one of the best experiences of my life. In LA, no one believed we could accomplish anything on the field. Our ‘backs to the wall’ mentality really brought our team together as a unit and we ended up going to the MLL Championship game in '07. I feel like this team has that same potential."

Ian Dingman (Naval Academy) – A

"I am very excited about playing for the Ohio Machine this year.  There is a lot of buzz around the League about the new expansion teams and we have the opportunity to make something of it.  There is plenty of talent on the team to take us as far as we want to go.  We are all looking forward to the start of the season and getting back on the field."

Brett Garber (University of Massachusetts) – M:

“I am very excited to play with the Machine this summer in their new home in Ohio. I think we have a solid core of players to lead us.  Every time the MLL has gone to Ohio, we have had a great turnout of fans. I think we will have a great fan base and am looking forward to playing in a great city.”

Kyle Hartzell (Salisbury University) – D

“I am very excited to get things rolling with my new teammates and coaches.  This is going to be a new experience for me, as well as everyone else on this new expansion team.  Lacrosse is growing all over the place, especially in Ohio.  I cannot wait to see what our team can do this MLL season.  Throughout all the drafts we have picked up a lot of talent that will make our training camp a competitive one.  This year I am hoping we can have a successful regular season and make it to the playoffs!”

Connor Martin (Chapman University) – A

“I am pumped to be a part of this squad. This season is all about coming together as a team and actually embracing the unselfish concept of playing together in a league built around individual performance. I think the bossmen have put together a group of guys who will immediately want to play for each other and I can't imagine anything more enjoyable than that. Can't wait to strap it up and get buck wild! BOOMHIO!!!!”

Ray Megill (University of Maryland) – D:

"I was very excited to see our complete roster after the drafts were over. It is a team made up of unselfish players that know what it takes to play together as a team and win as a team. Individuals win games, whereas teams win championships. Cannot wait to kick this off and head into training camp and get rolling."

Matt Messina (NYIT) – M:

"I'm looking forward to playing with the Ohio Machine this summer after an up and down first three years in the League with the Cannons.  I have a lot of friends on the Machine that I've met throughout the League and even through college.  Seeing the email chain by what some guys are saying about this season it feels like a good bunch of guys are all going to be on the same page come training camp."

Josh Porcell (UMBC) – M

“It’s great to be a part of a new organization. Really excited to play for Coach Garber – he's a great coach and a great guy to play for. I think we have a great squad of veterans and I feel that will translate into great chemistry to set us up for a successful season. Look forward to proving all the critics wrong who think the Machine is going to go winless this season. It will also be fun to play alongside a very good friend of mine and Rogue Lacrosse partner, Kyle Hartzell. We were teammates at Essex CC and this will be the first time we've played together since then.”

Matt Witko (Tufts University) – M:

"I am very excited for the upcoming season with the Machine. I can't wait to get out there and compete against the best of the best. We have a real opportunity to turn some heads this year and compete for a championship. The guys on this team are a special group of hard-working, dedicated athletes who put the team first and embrace the mentality that we will do whatever it takes to win. May 5th and May 19th are two dates that I have marked on my calendar. May 5th marks the first time where the Machine can show the rest of the league what we are about and that we are for real. May 19th is the first time we can show our passionate fans the excitement, physicality, and fun that this team brings to each and every game."

Chazz Woodson (Brown University) – M

“It means a great deal to me that the Machine thought enough about me to take me with the first pick in the supplemental draft, particularly after having been injured and then out of the League for a year.  In addition to helping establish a franchise in a new market, I'm excited about reuniting with some of my teammates from LA (Anthony Kelly, Greg Bice and Matt Casey). As that was, without question, one of the most enjoyable lacrosse experiences of my life. The opportunity to play with those guys, and a few others, is 95% of why I chose to accept this opportunity."
