Machine Players on 2012 Season

March 19, 2016

Major League Lacrosse announced Thursday the signing of players for the 2012 MLL season, including several Ohio Machine players. Check out what a few of those players have to say about the Machine's inaugural season!

Max Schmidt (University of Maryland) - D:

“I'm looking forward to playing with a exciting group of guys who all have one goal in mind this season – to win an MLL Championship. And for a lacrosse player, it’s a dream come to true to have the opportunity to play in front of my hometown crowd at the highest level possible. Every kid dreams of being a professional athlete and even more being a professional athlete in your own backyard. I am extremely blessed to have the opportunity to play for the Ohio Machine and I intend to make the most of it this season!”

Brian Phipps (University of Maryland) - GK:

"I am very excited to be a part of the growth of this sport and Major League Lacrosse into the Midwest as we start to get ready for the 2012 inaugural season with the Ohio Machine.  It is wonderful to see more teams being added to the league, and looking forward to helping make this team a contender for the championship.  We have an extremely talented group of guys that will be dedicated to winning and helping the Machine excel in its first MLL season."

Kevin Ridgway (Notre Dame) - D:

I think one of the things I am looking forward to most this season has to do with the buzz that has been created about the Machine for this summer. From what I have seen fans are extremely excited to have us playing in Ohio, so I can’t wait to get out there and compete in front of a boisterous home crowd. When you have great support behind you, it makes games that much more fun. I love playing in an atmosphere where it’s loud, people are having a good time, and they genuinely care how well you perform on the field. Personally, it gives me that little extra edge and I can’t wait to experience that this summer playing for the Machine.

Dan Groot (University of Maryland) - M:

“As a player I couldn't be more excited to compete for the Machine this summer, an expansion team with a lot of excitement surrounding the organization. Adding a pro team to the Midwest is a great thing for this League and I am really looking forward to playing with some old teammates, Rattlers and Terps included, as well as new teammates who are all focused on the same goal, winning a championship in the Ohio Machine's inaugural season.”

Eric O’Brien (The Ohio State University) - FO/M:

“Being given a second opportunity to play in the League, I couldn’t ask for anything more.   I’m very much looking forward to playing for the Machine this spring in front of the hometown fans!  They are my fuel and push me harder each week as we approach the season.  After graduating from high school, the big stage at the time for lacrosse in Columbus was the Buckeyes.  Now I have the opportunity to take it a step further with the new team in town on an even bigger stage!  Training camp will be like Christmas…not knowing what to expect from the organization. I can’t wait until that first training camp weekend in April!  Playing box lacrosse leading right up to training camp couldn’t be any better.  Tuned skills, in shape, ready to “meat” some opponents around on the field.  I’m excited for the 2012 season in Columbus!!!”
