The Ohio Machine fell to its fellow 2012 expansion team this weekend after the Charlotte Hounds dominated the third quarter of the game, leading them to a 13-7 victory.
The Machine went ahead early with a quick goal from Logan Schuss. Charlotte’s Eric Lusby responded with back-to-back goals taking away the Machine lead.
Halfway through the first quarter, Brett Garber tied the game up at 2-2 and Logan Schuss scored again to give the Machine its lead back. Matt Danowski ended the quarter with a 2-point goal to bring the Hounds lead back up 4-3.
The Machine clamped down on defense in the second quarter and completely stopped the Hounds from scoring. Joe Cummings scored the only goal in the quarter for the Fireball Whiskey Shot of the Game to tie the game 4-4 going into halftime.
The Hounds dominated the third quarter going on a 5-0 scoring streak, scoring eight goals total in the quarter. With the help of two goals from Matt Danowski and Eric Lusby, Charlotte were able to bump up its lead.
The Hounds offense spent most of the third quarter on the Machine’s half of the field disabling the Machine’s opportunities to score. Steele Stanwick and Joe Cummings finally found the net for the Machine, but the Hounds walked into the final quarter leading 12-6.
In the final quarter, both teams were only able to put one more goal on the scoreboard. Marcus Holman scored in hopes of tightening the Hounds’ lead, but Eric Lusby scored the final goal to keep the six-goal difference between the teams. The game ended with the Hounds defeating the Machine 13-7.
