Machine Midfield Bolstered By Veteran Presence

March 19, 2016
The Ohio Machine announced today the acquisition of midfielder and Johns Hopkins University alum Stephen Peyser through a trade with the New York Lizards. In return for Peyser, the Lizards receive midfielder John Austin and the Machine’s second round pick (13th Overall) in the 2014 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft.

“Stephen Peyser is an unbelievable offensive talent that will bring a tremendous veteran presence and skill set to our locker room,” said President and GM John Algie. “He adds size and a dodging threat to our midfield line, as well as a two-point threat that we were missing last year. We’re excited to have Stephen join our roster for the 2014 season.”

Over the course of six MLL seasons, Peyser played in a total of 70 games, scoring 103 goals and tallying 18 assists. Peyser played for the Lizards from 2009-2013 and most recently played in 13 games for New York where he scored 13 goals and tallied two assists. While with the Lizards, Peyser was named an MLL All-Star and received All-MLL honors, both in 2011 after a career-best season of 32 points from 22 goals, including six two-point goals, and four assists.

Peyser was recently named to the 52-man U.S. Men’s National Team training roster, along with new Machine teammates Brian Farrell, Kyle Hartzell, Marcus Holman and Steele Stanwick, set to compete at the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championships. Peyser, the 4th Overall pick in the 2008 MLL Collegiate Draft, was also a member of the U.S. Men’s National Team that won the 2010 FIL World Championships. Prior to joining MLL, Peyser played for Johns Hopkins from 2005 to 2008 helping the Blue Jays win two national championships in 2005 and 2007. Peyser, a two-time All-American, scored 49 goals and 23 assists for 72 points during his four seasons with Johns Hopkins.

The Machine also announced a trade with the Charlotte Hounds that sends second-year attackman Joe Cummings to Charlotte for a 2014 5th Round MLL Collegiate Draft pick (39th Overall).

“We have a lot of depth at the attack position and this trade gives us another asset to address some of the other areas on the field that need our attention,” said Algie. “It also moves Joe closer to home at a time when his availability in 2014 will be extremely limited due to personal family commitments. We can’t thank Joe enough for all his hard work over these past two seasons and wish him the best of luck with Charlotte.”

Season tickets for the Machine’s 2014 season are now on sale and range from General Admission at $92 to a Field Level Box at $2,400 and include seven regular season home games plus a 2014 MLL playoff game. Information on 2014 season tickets can be found at
