Machine Makes Big Moves on Player Front

March 19, 2016
The Ohio Machine has been busy on the player front over these past few days, acquiring some of the best veterans in Major League Lacrosse to build an incredible team for the 2012 inaugural season.

In their historical first player move, the Machine acquired The Ohio State University alums Greg Bice, Anthony Kelly and Stefan Schroder, as well as MLL veteran Brett Garber and Rochester’s second round MLL Collegiate Draft pick (15 th overall). In return, the Machine traded their first round (1 st overall) 13 th round (25 th overall) MLL Expansion Draft picks and their second round (10 th overall) and third round (18 th overall) MLL Collegiate Draft picks to Rochester.

“Greg and Anthony are two veteran all-stars and outstanding players. Brett has proven to be a consistent scorer in Major League Lacrosse and Stefan is one of the up and coming young goalies in the League,” said Head Coach Ted Garber. “With this core group of talented players, we are off to a great start to putting our team together for next season.”

The Machine followed up their first big trade with another trade with the 2011 MLL Champions Boston Cannons, receiving the Cannons’ first round MLL Collegiate Draft pick (8 th overall).  The Cannons received the Machine’s second round MLL Collegiate Draft pick (15 th overall), which was acquired through the Rochester trade, and sixth round MLL Expansion Draft pick (11 th overall).

“This is a notable move for us because it gives us two picks in the top eight of the upcoming collegiate draft,” said President and GM John Algie. “We have the opportunity to select two of the next great MLL stars who can be impact players for us in seasons to come.”

To round out their impressive week of trading, the Machine closed out with a significant trade with the Chesapeake Bayhawks to receive the 2010 MLL Championship Weekend MVP and four-year MLL veteran Kyle Hartzell and Chesapeake’s second round MLL Supplemental Draft pick (13 th overall). In exchange, the Bayhawks received the Machine’s seventh round MLL Expansion Draft pick (13 th overall).

“Anytime you have the opportunity to trade for a MLL Championship Weekend MVP, you have to make that move,” said President and GM John Algie. “Kyle will inject an incredible amount of athleticism and versatility into the Machine defense.”
