Machine Cut Short In Loss To Bayhawks

March 19, 2016
The Ohio Machine suffered its second loss, 14-5, of the season to the 2013 MLL champs Chesapeake Bayhawks in a shortened three-quarter game due to weather.

The Bayhawks came out in the first quarter strong with three goals, including a two-point goal from Steven Brooks, in the first eight minutes of the game before attackman Jim Connolly got the Machine on the board. Connolly scored off a Steele Stanwick assist during the Bayhawks off-sides penalty to make the score 4-1 with five minutes left in the first quarter. The Bayhawks continued to add to their score before a weather delay was called due to lightning in the area. The Bayhawks went into the break leading 10-1.

The Machine continued to fight to put more points on the board but couldn't make it past Chesapeake's Kip Turner, who had 11 saves on the night, until after the weather delay when midfielder Will Harrington scored his first MLL goal in his first game with the Machine within seconds of returning to the field.

The weather continued to worsen into the third quarter with the Bayhawks leading 13-2 but the Machine seemed to be getting back some of its momentum when Stanwick found Joe Cummings who put the ball past Turner to lessen the goal deficit to make it 13-3. Two minutes later Chesapeake's Kyle Dixon found Drew Westervelt who made it 14-3. In the final minutes of the third quarter Machine's Connolly and Cummings both tallied their second goals of the game to make it 14-5 but officials called the game due to the severe weather in Annapolis. The Bayhawks walked away 3-0 with the Machine at 0-2.

The Machine is back at home for its third game of the season against the New York Lizards on Saturday, May 18, for "Haines Publishing Night" at 8 p.m. The first 3,000 fans through the gates receive an Ohio Machine cinch bag presented by Haines Publishing.
