Major League Lacrosse named Ohio Machine attackman Logan Schuss Cascade Rookie the Week after his three-goal and one assist performance on Saturday in the Machine’s game against the Hamilton Nationals.
In the Machine’s 13-12 loss on Saturday, Schuss helped the Machine stay on the Nationals’ heels and keep pace throughout the game. Schuss was the first on the board for the Machine in the second quarter with his first goal of the night. His final two goals of the game helped chip away at Hamilton’s six-goal lead in the third quarter that gave the Machine a chance at a come-from-behind win. In his eighth game with the Machine, Schuss also tallied his fourth hat trick of the season.
“It’s an honor to be named rookie of the week especially with so much talent among the MLL rookies,” said Schuss. “I definitely have to give credit to my teammates who have done a great job finding me in the open spots so I can get my shots off and the coaching staff who has done an incredible job of putting in offensive sets for us to find rhythm and success in front of the goal.”
In his first season with the Machine, Schuss currently leads the Machine and all MLL rookies in goals with 20 and is also second on the team and third among MLL rookies with points (23). Before his rookie season, Schuss played for the Ohio State Buckeyes for the 2010-2013 seasons. Schuss started and played in every season game during his four years and is ranked first in OSU history for goals with 146 and second in OSU history for points with 237. Schuss also ended his career with 91 assists and 96 collected groundballs.
Schuss was a three-time first team All-ECAC selection, 2012 third team USILA All-American, ECAC Rookie of the Year in 2010, ECAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2012, Face-Off Yearbook preseason second team All-American and 2010 Honorable Mention All American. At OSU, Schuss was a three-time winner of his team’s Offensive MVP award, three-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete, two-time Academic All-Big Ten choice and Academic All-ECAC selection. Schuss was also nominated as one of the top 25 nominees for the Tewaaraton Trophy. As co-captain his senior season, Schuss helped lead the Buckeyes to win the ECAC Championship and advance all the way to the 2013 NCAA Quarterfinals.
