Hartzell Named All-MLL

March 19, 2016

Major League Lacrosse announced today that Ohio Machine defenseman and 2012 Team MVP Kyle Hartzell was named to the 2012 All-Major League Lacrosse team, along with 11 other MLL players.

Named to the All-MLL team for the first time in his career, Hartzell ended 2012 season in style with a record-setting 21 points, including nine two-point goals. He led all defensemen in scoring with 21 points while his nine two-point goals ranked second among all MLL players.

“It is a great honor to be mentioned as one of the elite defenders in this league especially with so many talented defensemen out there today. I couldn’t have done it without all my teammates who fought alongside me all season. I have worked incredibly hard ever since joining the MLL to get to where I am at today.  I owe a lot of credit to my Strength and Conditioning Coach Jay Dyer who has been pushing me week in and week out for the past couple of years.  I want to thank all the fans for your support! I’m looking forward to getting back out on the field for the 2013 season.”

In the last game of the season on August 11, Hartzell broke 2011 MLL Defensive Player of the Year Brodie Merril’s record for most points by a defenseman in a season.  Hartzell also set the record for two-point goals in a season by a defenseman with nine.  Hartzell’s nine two-point goals place him sixth in two-point goals during a single season all-time.   Five out of Hartzell’s nine two-point goals have either tied the game or have given the Machine the lead.  Hartzell also has a shooting percentage of .262, which is higher than four of the league’s top ten point-getters.

"There aren't enough superlatives to describe what Kyle has meant to the Machine this season. Not only has he revolutionized his position but he has also taken an active role in mentoring our rookie class as we build our organization,” said Machine President and General Manager John Algie.

The selections were based on votes submitted by the general managers and head coaches of the six MLL teams in addition to voting by MLL fans.
