Machine Ink Davis To Multi-Year Contract Extension

November 7, 2017
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Machine Team President Ryan Chenault has announced that Head Coach Bear Davis has agreed to a three-year contract extension that will keep the coach of the 2017 Major League Lacrosse Champions on the sideline through the 2020 season.  Davis has served as the head coach of the Machine since the 2013 season.

“Without question, Coach Davis has done an incredible job in leading the Machine.  Bear’s tremendous coaching ability has turned the Machine into one of the most consistently high performing teams in Major League Lacrosse,” said Chenault.  “I could not be happier that we have signed Coach Davis to a contract extension and am excited to support his efforts as we look to win multiple championships.”

“I would like to thank Ryan Chenault and our owner Jim Davis for their incredible support and for trusting me to lead this team into the next decade,” Davis said. “It is their support that has directly allowed me the opportunity to lead this team to realizing success at the very highest level. I am humbled by the opportunity to lead this great group of guys and am determined that we maintain this level of success.”

When Davis was hired as the second head coach in team history in 2013, he inherited a team that had only won three games over two seasons.  However, in the time that he has led the Machine, the team has made the postseason four straight years including back-to-back appearances in the MLL Championship Game in 2016 and 2017, winning it all this past August.

In addition to the extension as head coach, Bear Davis has also been officially named General Manager of the Ohio Machine and will oversee all team personnel decisions.  Davis also works within the front office as the Vice President of Lacrosse Operations and Community Outreach, where he is charged with engaging the lacrosse community throughout the state of Ohio.  A native of Hilliard, Ohio, he is a board member of Hilliard Optimist Youth Lacrosse and an at-large board member of the Central Ohio chapter of US Lacrosse.
