Upper Arlington Makes it Three-Straight State Championships
The Upper Arlington boys lacrosse team won its third State Title in as many years on June 8. The Golden Bears topped Dublin Jerome, 11-5, in the Division I championship game at Olentangy Liberty High School. UA finished its season with a near-perfect 21-2 record and scored three goals in the game’s first five minutes. Dublin Jerome finished the season with a 17-5 record.
Cincinnati Sycamore Tops Medina for Girls Division I Title
The Cincinnati Sycamore girls lacrosse team piled on 16 goals to win the Division I State Championship game by 10 goals against Medina. Sycamore totaled 30 goals between its semi-final and final matchups. Medina was unable to add the title after winning in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Sycamore filed a perfect 20-0 record in 2014 on its way to the title.
Worthington Kilbourne Takes Girls Division II Championship From Indian Hill
After taking just 19 shots on goal, the Worthington Kilbourne girls lacrosse team was still able to tally 17 goals on its way to the Division II title. Kilbourne lost in the final a year ago, but topped Indian Hill to clinch the championship and a 17-3 record in 2014. The game ended 17-7 behind senior midfielder Kara Hines’ six goals. Indian Hill found itself just three back at 10-7, but Kilbourned jumped out to finish the game on a 7-0 run.
Mariemont Takes Division II Title from Chagrin Falls
The Mariemont boys lacrosse team held off the Chagrin Falls tigers, 10-9, to win the state Division II title June 7. The Warriors went up, 9-3, to start the game and held on after a fierce rally from Chagrin to cap off a 17-2 season with the Championship. It was Mariemont’s second consecutive state title.
Sycamore’s Abby Wise Commits to OSU
Cincinnati Sycamore goalie Abby Wise commited to play collegiately at Ohio State after helping her team to the 2014 Division I State Championship. She finished her senior season with a 19-0 record and saved nearly 60 percent of the shots she faced. Wise started for three seasons while at Sycamore.
OSU’s Hunter Heading to Israel for Lacrosse Showcase
Ohio State attackman Ryan Hunter will be part of an all-star team of American collegiate lacrosse players set to take on Israel’s national team during a three-game exhibition in Israel. The showcase is part of the American players’ Taglit-Birthright trip. Adam Daroff, a goalie at Babson from Pepper Pike, Ohio, is also on the USA roster. Games are set to start Thursday, June 19, in Rehaniya.
19th Annual Ohio Cup a Huge Success
The 19th annual Ohio Cup, Sponsored by the Hilliard Youth Lacrosse Association and the Ohio Machine, is the Midwest’s largest youth lacrosse tournament. This year was no different as winners were crowned in four different divisions. Upper Arlington defeated Mason Green 5-4 to take home the top prize in the boys division A. In the boys division B, Strongsville downed the St. Paul Rams by a score of 10-7. On the girls side, Dublin Green beat the New Albany Gold 10-5 to capture the girls division A title. In girls division B, Pickerington outscored the Granville Blue Aces 10-6 to win it all.
