The Ohio Machine took to the field over the weekend for week one of its 2014 training camp, and team veteran Greg Bice said the new-look group as already starting to gel.
“The first couple practices we’ve had have been real nice and we’ve got a nice foundation,” Bice said. “It’s been good and we look forward to how we can come together in the next couple sessions in training camp.”
While much of the squad’s core returns from 2013, the weekend provided first looks at some new additions like midfielder Kyle Harrison. Bice said the addition of Harrison will make a big difference on and off the field for the Machine in 2014.
“It’s huge for us, a guy like Harry, he’s obviously a terrific player, one of the biggest faces in the game,” he said.
Beyond his skill on the field, Bice said Harrison will provide a boost to the team’s leadership.
“Guys look to him, he’s a leader, he’s come in and done a nice job of getting guys in the right spot,” Bice said. “For our team it’s huge, and I think, more from a leadership standpoint than from his actual play.
“And that says a lot because he’s one of the best players in the game.”
Beyond Harrison, Bice said everything starts with the culture implemented by Head Coach Bear Davis, calling him a “fantastic motivator.”
“This year, year three, we’re hungry, ready to get some W’s for the community and for all the fans we have,” Bice said. “I’m excited to see what we can do when you put it on the field.”
The Machine returns to Columbus April 12 and 13 for a second weekend of training camp. All training camp practice sessions are open to the public.
