Machine Select Eight Players In 2014 Collegiate Draft


COLUMBUS, Ohio (January 10, 2014) – The Ohio Machine (Machine), Ohio’s Major League Lacrosse (MLL) team, selected Tom Schreiber with the first overall pick in the 2014 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft. The Machine drafted a total of eight players, including two Ohio natives. All players selected in the 2014 MLL Collegiate Draft will be eligible to join the Machine following the conclusion of the 2014 NCAA Lacrosse season.

The Machine selected Schreiber with the first overall pick followed by Rob Guida (13h overall), Jackson Place (25th overall), Toledo, Ohio native Scott Loy (27th overall), Derek Maltz (39th overall), Stephen O’Hara (41stoverall) R.G. Keenan (49th overall) and Dublin, Ohio native Spencer Schnell (57th overall).

“Not only was Tom Schreiber the best player in this draft, we got the best player in college lacrosse,” said General Manager and President John Algie. “In addition to Tom, every player we drafted will strengthen our team in 2014 and address area of needs on our roster.”

Schreiber (6’0”, 190, 2/24/92), a senior midfielder at Princeton University, ranks first all-time among Tiger midfielders with 149 career points (76 goals, 73 assists) and is the only midfielder in program history to register more than 70 career goals and 70 career assists. A Tewaaraton Trophy finalist last year, Schreiber earned All-America honors after each of this three collegiate seasons (2013 and 2012 first team, 2011 third team). Schreiber, an East Meadow, N.Y. native, led the Tigers in assists three consecutive seasons and has twice led the team in goals.

“We are very excited to have Tom (Schreiber) join our team,” said Head Coach Bear Davis. “We feel that Tom’s skills and personality compliment what we are building both on and off the field in Columbus.”

The Machine selected two Ohio natives in the 2014 MLL Draft. Loy (6’2”, 209, August 91), a Toledo, Ohio native, started 18 games at midfield for Syracuse last season, while Dublin, Ohio native Schnell (6’2”, 205) scored 28 goals and added 14 assists for Ohio Wesleyan University.

Guida (5’9”, 170, 11/22/91) earned second team All-America honors in 2012 as he posted 17 goals and 11 assists in 16 games. The Chatham, NJ native missed a majority of the 2013 season due to injury. Jackson (5’11”, 185, 5/20/92) ranked 17th nationally last season with 30 caused turnovers and ranked third on the Bucknell team with 43 groundballs. Maltz (6’2”, 190, December 92) a Co-Captain for the Syracuse Orange, finished second on the team with 32 goals last season.
