US Lacrosse Certifications Increase In Ohio

US Lacrosse is the national governing body of lacrosse that is committed to providing programs and services to inspire participation while protecting the integrity of the sport. US Lacrosse offers certifications through the Coaching Education Program for adults that are interested in becoming a certified lacrosse coach for both boys and girls lacrosse.

Recently, US Lacrosse held a very successful Level 1 clinic in Columbus, Ohio. This recent success shows the large growth of lacrosse in central Ohio and renewed focus led by new chapter President Pam Gallagher. The certification took place on February 23 at Thomas Worthington High School in Worthington, Ohio, with more than 70 area coaches in attendance.

“We had more than 75 people take part in this past clinic and we have been receiving incredible feedback on the certification,” said Gallagher. “We are looking forward to hosting another one very soon and to continue to grow the sport through our players and coaches.”

US Lacrosse also held Level 1 Certifications in Dayton, Ohio in mid-February and are holding another Level 1 Certification in Oberlin, Ohio on March 23. The three US Lacrosse Chapters in Ohio include the Ohio, North Coast Ohio and Southern Ohio Chapters.

There are a number of steps that are involved with becoming a certified US Lacrosse coach, which includes a membership with US Lacrosse, background screenings, an online course, instructional clinic and a coach’s workshop. Through these steps, the certification provides new coaches the necessary tools to coach basic lacrosse to a group of beginner-level players and learn how to handle the responsibilities of being a coach.

The instructional clinics run for roughly six hours at an affordable cost for any aspiring lacrosse coach. The clinic provides information about basic practice drills, improving players’ skills and coaching tactics.

The US Lacrosse North Coast Ohio chapter is hosting the upcoming Level 1 Certification in Oberlin, Ohio. The certification clinic will take place on March 23 at the Williams Field House at Oberlin College from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, contact Ed Aghajanian or register here.

The Machine is excited to see that three Ohio cities are able to support Level 1 Clinics this year, showing how much interest in the sport of lacrosse continues to grow in Ohio, as well as the Midwest.
