Get to Know the Machine: Art Kell

After the 2013 MLL Supplemental Draft, the Machine added 12 talented players to its already bolstered roster including University of Massachusetts alum and attackman Art Kell, the Machine’s second draft pick and 17th overall.

This Massachusetts native attended Westford Academy and transferred to Bridgton Academy before making his way to an outstanding career at the University of Massachusetts.

Kell earned four varsity letters at Westford Academy before transferring to Bridgton. In addition to lacrosse, Kell participated in other sports such as football and basketball, but was soon given a chance to play lacrosse with the Minutemen.

Kell began his first season powerfully by starting in all 15 season games and became the leading freshmen scorer in 2009. As a sophomore, Kell suffered a foot injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the 2010 season but not before starting in eight games where he led the team with 33 points, 21 goals and 12 assists. Prior to his injury, he was 12th in the NCAA for points per game (4.13), 19th in goals per game (2.63) and 33rd in assists per game (1.5). Kell went on to play his junior year where he was second on the team in scoring with 40 points and assists (14) and first on the team in goals (26).

During his 2012 senior year, Kell started in all regular season games and scored in 13 of the 16 games. He ranked second on the team in assists and points with 20 and 53 respectively and tied for second for goals with 33. He also helped lead his team to an undefeated regular season (15-0) and a NCAA berth in 2012.

Kell begins his MLL career with the Machine and looks to bring with him to the Machine 2013 training camp a more physical style of attack.
