The Ohio Machine drafted 2012 Tewaaraton Award winner Peter Baum, along with seven other players including three The Ohio State University players, during the 2013 MLL Collegiate Draft.
The Machine drafted Colgate University attackman Baum with the first overall pick followed by OSU attackman Logan Schuss for its second pick (11th Overall). All college players drafted in the 2013 MLL Collegiate Draft will be eligible to play in MLL after the close of the 2013 NCAA season.
Portland, OR native Baum became the first Colgate, Patriot League and West Coast player to win the prestigious Tewaaraton Award this past season. Baum finished his award-filled junior season with a career-high 97 points from 67 goals and 30 assists in 18 games. He also set the Colgate and Patriot League records for points and goals in a season, as well as led the country with 5.39 points per game and 3.72 goals per game. Baum was also named 2012 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and named to the 2012 USILA All-America First Team, All-Patriot League First Team and Academic All-Patriot League Team.
“Peter was the best player in college last year,” said General Manager and President John Algie. “He has all the physical tools, as well as the vision and leadership skills, we are looking for in a player. We look forward to watching him play with Colgate and see how he can top his incredible 2012 season.”
British Columbia native Schuss finished his 2012 junior season first on the team with a career-best 39 goals and 57 points, along with 18 assists, in 15 games. Schuss was also named ECAC Offensive Player of the Year, USILA Third Team All-American and First Team All-ECAC, as well as OSU Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Big Ten.
Both Baum and Schuss are entering their senior seasons on 45-game point streaks, which began their 2010 freshmen season.
Another OSU player drafted by the Machine was midfielder Dominique Alexander, who will lead the Buckeyes as co-captain during his senior season. Alexander started all 15 games in 2012 and scored 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points total, which ranked him third on the team in points and second in assists.
The Machine also drafted attackman Marcus Holman (12th Overall) from University of North Carolina, who finished the 2012 season with a total of 74 points on 39 goals and 35 assists. His 74 points also made him third most in a single campaign in UNC school history. He was also named All-ACC and USILA Second Team All-America. Holman will lead the Tar Heels as captain his senior and becomes the first solo captain of UNC men's lacrosse team since 1990.
