Ohio Machine Coaching Clinic

Want to know what Ohio Machine Head Coach Ted Garber thinks teams need to focus on more to build an effective lacrosse program? Then don’t miss out on the first of Head Coach Ted Garber’s Coaching Clinic Series presented by OSU Sports Medicine on Saturday, September 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

During the clinic, Head Coach Garber will be targeting the fundamentals for teams and individuals, which he says “are THE most important components to playing lacrosse successfully.” On top of focusing on the building blocks of lacrosse, Garber will be emphasizing recognition and movement off ball, both offensively and defensively.

Garber, along with Machine Assistant Coach Bill Wolford, will also be answering questions presented by coaches in attendance, as well as advising on problem areas that coaches participating have submitted prior to the clinic. Coaches will also to hear from OSU Sports Medicine Sports Performance Director Dan Inglis during the clinic on other ways to build an effective lacrosse program.

Coaches will not only hear Garber speak about to create and sustain a successful lacrosse program but will also watch Garber demonstrate on the field essential exercises that he uses during Ohio Machine practices to prepare the professional players for a game and review the fundamentals.

The clinic is open to middle school and high school coaches in all divisions and is just $40. Price includes admission to the clinic, a pair of tickets to the Ohio Machine home opener and lunch. Coaches who participate will also receive a special discount to the 2012 Ohio Machine home opener in May for their team. The clinic will be held at OSU Morehouse Medical Plaza and OSU Adventures Recreation Center.

Garber’s professional coaching experience dates back to the creation of MLL, where he was a head coach during the 2000 MLL Summer Showcase Tour followed by the Bridgeport Barrage and assistant coaching stints at Boston, Chicago and Rochester. Prior to joining the MLL, Garber coached at University of New Hampshire for 13 seasons and led the team to five Northeast Championships. Garber was named New England Coach of the Year in 1986 and was also the recipient of the Vincent Lobello New England Sportsmanship Award for Coaching. In 1991, Garber followed his father – legendary lacrosse coach Dick Garber – as head coach at the University of Massachusetts. In his four seasons with UMass, Garber compiled a 37-17 record and two NCAA Tournament appearances. Garber’s winning percentage (.685) is tops in school history.

In addition to his MLL and collegiate tenures, Garber has spent more than 15 years coaching at the high school level and won numerous Western New England titles and Founder's League Championships. Garber is currently the Varsity Lacrosse Coach and an Admissions Affiliate at the renowned Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut.
