The Ohio Machine coaches had tough decisions to make coming out of the last week of training camp in order to cut the 40-man training camp roster down to 31 on final cut day.
“The first ever Ohio Machine training camp was extremely competitive and productive for everyone involved,” said Head Coach Ted Garber. “Based on how the players performed in all of the drills and scrimmage situations, we were able to identify and select a tremendous group of highly-skilled team players for the 2012 initial roster.”
With MLL veterans and up-and-coming talent all in the mix, Garber looked for what his main focus has been since day one – a team-first mentality.
“The chemistry is great on the team. They are excited and happy to play together,” said Garber. “They were able to start putting together the dots as a group and started playing team lacrosse during training camp these past few weekends.”
With training camp, Garber was finally able to see first-hand the talent he has been stock piling over the past several months. The diversity of talent of each player allowed the coaches to build a roster that will be able to develop and grow throughout the season.
“As an organization, it is very evident that our roster will give us the flexibility and strength to utilize all of our talent within the framework of successful team play as we head into the season,” said Garber.
The roster now consists of three goalies, nine defenders, 14 midfielders and five attackmen who will begin working towards the end goal of the 2012 MLL Championship, a journey which begins on May 5 when they take on the Chesapeake Bayhawks in Annapolis. That game will be aired live on ESPN3.com and on tape-delay at 11:30 p.m. on SportsTime Ohio.
