Get to Know the Machine: Dan Groot

Dan Groot’s focus for the Ohio Machine’s inaugural season is simple – to win a championship in the team’s first year. To accomplish this goal, Dan will be teaming up with several old teammates he has played with over the years.

Dan first started making a name for himself with his alma mater, University of Maryland. Dan played from 2006-2009 and played along the way with Machine teammates Jimmy Borell, Ray Megill, Brian Phipps and Max Schmidt. Dan captained the Terps his 2009 senior year and was named Preseason Second Team All-American and USILA Third Team All-American.

After Maryland, Dan began his Major League Lacrosse career in 2009 with the Bayhawks, where he played with Machine teammates Buggs Combs, Josh Coveleski and Kyle Hartzell.  Before being drafted by the Machine in the 4th Round of the MLL Expansion Draft, Dan most recently played for the Rochester Rattlers with fellow teammates Greg Bice, Brett Garber, Anthony Kelly, Jordan Levine and Stefan Schroder. Dan was a staple for the Rattlers’ midfield during the 2011 season and recorded one goal, two assists and 36 groundballs.

“As a player I couldn't be more excited to compete for the Machine this summer, an expansion team with a lot of excitement surrounding the organization. Adding a pro team to the Midwest is a great thing for this League and I am really looking forward to playing with some old teammates, Rattlers and Terps included, as well as new teammates who are all focused on the same goal, winning a championship in the Ohio Machine's inaugural season.”
