Ohio Wesleyan University Men’s Lacrosse to Play in Charity Event at Ohio State

The Ohio Wesleyan men’s lacrosse team will take on a pair of NCAA Division I institutions as part of the Colleen J. Dobbins Memorial Fall Classic on Saturday, October 15.

The tournament, which also will feature The Ohio State University and Canisius, will take place at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the Ohio State campus in Columbus. OWU will get its first action against Canisius at 2:15 p.m., and will follow that up with a matchup against OSU at 3:30 pm.

An old rivalry also will be renewed when OWU and OSU square off at the tournament. The schools played one another yearly when both were members of the Midwest Lacrosse Association, and Ohio Wesleyan holds a 34-15 lead in the all-time series.

The event was created in honor of Colleen Dobbins, the daughter of Dave Dobbins, assistant men’s lacrosse coach at OSU, and his wife, Erin.  Colleen died suddenly last spring at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.  She was five and a half months old.

There will be no admission at the gate, but a donation of $5 will be requested to support sick children at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Hiram College Announces Head Coach for First-Ever Lacrosse Team

Hiram College announced the hiring of Brian Jenkins as the first-ever head men’s lacrosse coach.  The Terrier men’s lacrosse team will begin varsity competition in the spring of 2013.

Prior to joining Hiram, Jenkins served as head lacrosse coach for 14 seasons at Shenandoah University.  While at Shenandoah, Jenkins led the Hornets to their most successful season in school history in 2007 with nine overall wins and five wins in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference. The seven-game improvement was also good for the biggest single-season turnaround in NCAA lacrosse history.  The Hornets also posted nine victories the following year during the 2008 season.

As a student-athlete at SUNY-Cortland, Jenkins played two years of lacrosse and was a member of a team that captured the 1986 and 1987 SUNYAC Championship.

In the summer of 2001, Jenkins played for Team USA at the World Championships (Master’s Division) in Perth, Australia. Team USA finished second as Jenkins had five goals, including two in the semi-finals.

A 2004 graduate of Ohio State University, Gilardi will serve as the Tigers’ offensive coordinator.
