The Ohio Machine lost 19-13 to the New York Lizards Saturday night at Shuart Stadium.
After finding itself down by four going into halftime, the Machine made a big comeback before eventually losing on a six-point New York run to end the game.
Machine midfielder Peter Baum tied a club record with five goals in the loss.
Machine midfielder Kyle Harrison opened up the scoring just 34 seconds into the game before defenseman Brian Farrell added another. After three goals from the Lizards, Ohio went into the second quarter down, 3-2.
Harrison opened the second quarter with a tally as well, but a five-goal run from New York put the Lizards ahead, 8-3. Baum scored at the 1:20 mark in the quarter to get the Machine back on the score sheet.
The third quarter started just as the first two did – with a Harrison goal – bringing the Machine within three at 8-5. The two teams went back and forth before Baum two in a row to tie the game at 10.
Holman and Baum mixed a goal each with three goals from New York as the Lizards took a 13-12 lead with 10:56 to play. Face-off man Bobby Dattilo picked up his first goal of the season straight from the draw to even the score once again. It proved to be Ohio’s last point of the night as New York took the win.
After Baum’s five goals, Harrison had three and Holman finished with two. Midfielder Tom Schreiber led the team with two assists and Dattilo snagged a team-high six ground balls.
Goalie Brian Phipps made 13 saves on 31 shots on goal, taking the loss. Dattilo finished 10-of-18 at the face-off X while Eric O’Brien went seven-for-17.
Former Machine defenseman Kyle Hartzell totaled four points and Jo-Jo Marasco scored five goals to lead the Lizards.
The Machine will head back to Delaware, Ohio, for a three-game home stand, starting with a matchup with the Chesapeake Bayhawks on the Fourth of July. That game will face off at 4 p.m. EST. Ohio is scheduled to host the Charlotte Hounds July 19 at 7 p.m. and the Denver Outlaws July 26 at 4:30 p.m. All three games will be broadcast live on CBS Sports from Selby Stadium.
